About Me
Hey there, adventure lovers! I’m Omotoke Motunrayo Fatoki, but most people know me as the Alárìnká of Africa, the overland traveler and the founder of Overlanding Africa with a love for exploring Africa—one bus, train, and taxi at a time! While others might choose to hop on a plane, I’ve made it my mission to experience this beautiful continent solely by land, traveling by public transportation. It’s all about the journey, right? As a matter of fact, I am the first lady to backpack across West Africa.
You might wonder, “Why would anyone take on such a crazy challenge?” Well, that’s just who I am. I’m not only the first woman to backpack across Nigeria by road, but I’m also in the midst of my next epic adventure—backpacking all the way from Nigeria to Namibia. Yep, that’s 15 countries by road! I want to see Africa up close and personal, connecting with local cultures, eating street food, and riding in the same buses as everyday people. Trust me, it’s been wild—and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Born and raised In Lagos, I am from the Southwestern part of Nigeria. Traveling is my biggest thing to do and when I am not traveling, I am mostly indoor enjoying some me time, hang out with friends, and creating beautiful memories.
What is Overlanding, Anyway?
So, what’s this ‘overlanding’ thing I keep talking about? It means traveling across long distances by land, without flying. For me, it’s the ultimate way to truly feel Africa. There’s something magical about watching the scenery change slowly from region to region, crossing borders by foot, and having stories to tell about every taxi driver, every market I’ve wandered through, and every unexpected friendship I’ve made along the way.
Why Do I Do This?
My love for Africa runs deep, and I want to show the world (and you!) that this continent is full of surprises, beauty, and opportunity. Through my travels, I’m a tourism promoter, shining a light on the wonders of Africa, especially for other Africans who might be thinking of migrating within the continent. This is why I started my project, Africa Migration Stories, to inspire more people to travel within Africa and discover how much our own land has to offer.
Documenting the beauty of Nigeria
Traveling across Nigeria for me wasn't just for fun, it is being deeply rooted in my love for my dear country and her people. Nigeria is blessed with so many beautiful landscapes. waterfalls , food and diversified culture. not to forget the beautiful and welcoming people. I took it upon myself to solo travel by road to all 36 states in the country to promote Nigeria to Nigerians and the whole country at large to debunk the idea that that there is nothing to see nor experience in terms of vacation, adventure and enjoying God's created green nature for mankind.Even when I travel to all the countries in the world, Nigeria will forever be my first love who showed me to see the beauty in everything around me and to adore and appreciate God's creation.
